| How long is the length of stay for Prostate
resection surgery? |
|
| Normally, Prostate will require 2-3 nights stay in the hospital.
Post operative check up will be done 1 week after the surgery. |

| How is the resection performed? |
|
Prostate requires general or spinal or epidural anesthesia.
A cystoscope is inserted into the urethra thorough the male genital organ and
up into the bladder. The bladder is filled with a solution to let surgeon have
a clearly vision of its interior.
The surgeon inserts a surgical loop through the cystoscope for removal the
portion of the prostate that has become enlarged. A catheter is left in the
bladder to pass urine, and to flush the bladder in order to remove accumulated
blood clots.

| What is the post-surgical care? |
|
|
The catheter left in the bladder may make the patient feel the urge to
micturition.Sometimes a small blood clot can block the catheter. The catheter
will be removed when the urine begins to run clear; this is usually within 2-3
days. When you first start to micturate, you may feel a stinging sensation and
the patient urine may be turbid. The patient may also have leaks or dribbles of
urine, but this usually disappears within 24 hours.

| What are the common complications? |
|
|
Prostate syndrome (occurs in about 2 percent of patients, usually within the
first 24 hours) includes: hypertension or hypotension, bradycardia (slow heart
action) or abnormal heart rhythm, tachypnea (increased respiratory rate),
nausea or vomiting, blurred vision, confusion, agitation, coma and shock in
very rare serious case.
