Karlovy Vary, also known as Carisbad, is the largest and second oldest spa bath resort in the Czech Republic and was founded in the 1350’s by Emperor Charles IV whilst out hunting. Located in a picturesque river valley, the spa town has paid host to many famous people over the centuries including European royalty and nobility as well as Beethoven, Goethe, Chopin and Wagner.

The attractive town boasts some fine architecture with a number of impressive buildings including a theatre, bath and spa houses, hotels and churches. There are 12 curative springs in the town, all regularly used for health and relaxation reasons.

The extraordinary therapeutic effects of the springs result from their high concentration of liberated minerals. Kalovy Vary is known for its treatment of a variety of ailments, and therapy consists of drinking the waters, baths, packs and other treatments along with active movement and the beneficial effect of the spa environment.
