Prague, a visually stunning city of a thousand spires on the banks of the River Vltava, has a collection of wonderfully preserved, period buildings. With a relaxed atmosphere and friendly people, Prague is a cosmopolitan, fairytale city, popular with visitors from all over the world.
The city is a delight to explore but wear comfortable shoes as most of the streets are cobbled. Often regarded as a living museum, Prague offers many attractions on both sides of the river including castles, churches, museums and the Old Town, where the view from the top of the Old Town Hall is spectacular.
The streets of Staré Mesto, Nové Mesto and Malà Strana are full of shops selling everything from arts and crafts to clothes. For food and drink, there is a wide choice from Tex-Mex to Chinese, and the local cuisine, based around meat and dumplings and usually accompanied by a glass of wine or beer, is satisfying and certainly filling. Cafes and patisseries are plentiful and the best place for people-watching is in Wenceslas Square.
