The city of the Taj, as Agra is known, is world famous not only for its attractions, but also for its superb marble and soapstone inlay work. Tombs, temples and towers are amongst many fine examples of the city’s abundant architectural wealth, with fine gardens and beautiful mosques completing the picture.

With the arrival of the Mughals in 1526, the city of Agra grew in prominence as almost of all India came under the rule of the Mughal Empire, though its political significance ended when the capital was transferred to Delhi.

Situated on the right bank of the river Yamuna, Agra has many attractions to offer including its ancient fort, which houses the beautiful Pearl mosque. The city also boasts one of the most spectacular symbols of love and perfect craftsmanship, the magnificent Taj Mahal, built by Shah Jahan for his beloved wife, which is one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
