An idyllic island escape some 30 kilometres from the mainland, the island of Langkawi has beautiful beaches and spectacular scenery. The jungle-clad hills provide a stunning backdrop to this unspoiled, tranquil island paradise, which is both lively and leisurely. The choice is yours.
It is an ideal destination to get away from it all. The island has
a magical aura, surrounded by myths and legends and, in days gone
by, the waterways between the islands were a hideaway for pirates
who preyed on ships in the Straits of Malacca. Nowadays, Langkawi
is a wonderful place to feel the sand between your toes, relax and
enjoy the peace and quiet in this tropical splendour.
Eating out in Langkawi tends to centre on the hotels, but both Kush
and Pantai Cenang have a choice of restaurants and small food stalls.
The “Barn Thai” restaurant, situated deep inside the mangrove
swamps, is worth a visit. For souvenirs, local glassware and marble
are good buys at Langkawi Crystal, all reasonably priced.
