Penang, known as the Pearl of the Orient, has long been a favourite holiday spot for travellers from around the world. Situated in the Straits of Melacca just off the north-west coast of Malaysia, the old, stately, British colonial buildings vie for admiration with the ornate, colourful temples.

There is much to explore in Penang from the Botanical Gardens, set in a beautiful valley surrounded by jungle-clad hills, to lively Chinatown or colonial George Town where you can see the city from a trishaw. Intriguing shops and the exciting night market all add to the experience. Nor will the cuisine disappoint. When it comes to food, Penang is excellent. Seafood is superb both in town and in the resorts, and the ethnic mix of cultures ensures a delicious fusion of tastes.

Penang is famous for its beautiful beaches, ideal for all types of water sports or just relaxing in the sun. Apart from beach activities, other sports are available including tennis, golf and horseback riding. At night, the island comes alive and there are pulsating discos and nightclubs to keep everybody happy.
